This tool adds a visual signature image to your PDF. It does NOT apply a cryptographic/digital certificate signature. For legally binding e-signatures, use a service with certificate authority. All processing happens in your browser — your file never leaves your device.

Visual signature vs. digital signature — illustrated

Signing a PDF can mean two different things. This tool does the visual kind: your drawn, typed, or uploaded signature becomes an image, is embedded as an Image XObject, and is drawn onto the page content stream at the spot you clicked — readers see it exactly like a scanned signature. A true digital signature goes further: it hashes the document's byte range, signs that digest with a private key, and stores the result in a /Sig fieldso a viewer can cryptographically verify that the file was not altered after signing.

Embed a signature image — and what a /Sig field adds

The top path is what this tool performs: a signature image embedded and drawn onto the page. The bottom path is what a certificate-based e-signature service adds — a hash, a digest, and an RSA signature stored in a /Sig field for tamper-evident verification.

Signing a supplier quotation

You need to approve a quotation and return it the same day. This tool places a visual signature; the final step notes what a certificate-based digital signature would add.

  1. Draw your signature:The drawing canvas stores your strokes as a 300×120 PNG data URL
  2. Place it on the page:Click the last page to set the (x, y) anchor; the image renders at about 180 px wide
  3. Embed and draw:pdf-lib embeds the PNG as an Image XObject and draws it into the page content stream at the anchor
  4. Compare with a digital signature:A /Sig field would instead store an RSA-signed digest of the byte range for viewers to verify

What Is the PDF Signer?

This tool adds signatures to PDFs directly in your browser through three input methods: draw the signature with mouse or touchscreen, type a name rendered in handwriting-style fonts, or upload a signature image scanned or photographed earlier. Position and scale the signature on any page, add date and text fields where forms demand them, and download the signed document. There is no account, no upload, and no per-document fee — which makes it the quick path for the everyday majority of signatures: consents, internal approvals, intake forms, and personal paperwork.

Who Should Use This Tool?

Anyone facing a form that must go back signed today: school enrollment, medical intake, HR onboarding packets, permission slips. Remote workers sign internal approvals and expense acknowledgments without a paid e-sign platform. Freelancers countersign lightweight client agreements. Travelers handle visa and booking confirmations that arrive as PDFs needing a signature field filled. The local-only pipeline suits sensitive documents — tax forms, medical paperwork — where uploading to a third-party signer service is the part you would rather skip.

How Does It Work?

(1) Load the PDF and navigate to the page needing the signature. (2) Create the signature — draw it, type it in a handwriting font, or upload an image; it saves for reuse within the session. (3) Drag the signature into position, scale it to fit the signature line, and add date or text fields if the form requires them. (4) Download the signed PDF. The signature embeds into the document as page content, visible in any PDF reader, with the original file's other pages untouched.

Is a Browser Signature Legally Valid?

In the US, the ESIGN Act and UETA make electronic signatures legally valid for most transactions — the signature's validity comes from intent and context, not from any particular technology, so a drawn signature on a downloaded PDF is enforceable for the broad run of everyday documents. The exceptions worth knowing: documents that still demand wet ink or notarization by statute — wills in most states, some trusts, certain court filings, and property deeds in many jurisdictions — plus anything your counterparty's process explicitly requires a certified platform for. Certified e-sign services add tamper-evident audit trails, identity verification, and certificate-based sealing, which matter for high-value contracts and regulated industries. Practical middle path used widely: sign here for routine paperwork, and when a document needs third-party verifiable proof of signing, route it through a certified platform for that transaction.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I add a signature to a PDF without printing?

Draw your signature with a mouse or trackpad, type your name in a cursive font, or upload a signature image. Position it anywhere on the document, resize as needed, and export the signed PDF. The entire process takes under 30 seconds with no printing or scanning.

Is a browser-added signature legally valid?

A visible signature image placed on a PDF satisfies most business agreements, vendor contracts, and HR forms under the US ESIGN Act and EU eIDAS regulation for standard electronic signatures. For qualified electronic signatures (QES) requiring certificate authority verification, you would need a dedicated e-signature platform.
