Worked example

A 22:00 night shift ending 06:00 the next morning with a 30-minute break, plus a standard 9:00–17:00 day with the same break.

Night shift: 8 h − 0.5 h break:7.5 h
Day shift: 8 h − 0.5 h break:7.5 h
At $25/h with OT, 15 h/week:$375.00

💡 Tips for accurate timesheets

If the end time is not later than the start time, the shift is treated as crossing midnight (e.g. 22:00 → 06:00 = 8 h). Most payroll systems want decimal hours (7.5, not 7:30) — the weekly total above gives you both.
