Honest limitation: browsers cannot capture synthesized speech into a file, so there is no download button here. To save an audio version, play the text and record it with the Screen Recorder.

What Web Speech synthesis can (and honestly cannot) do — illustrated

The browser's SpeechSynthesis engine drives the voices installed with your operating system — macOS ships Samantha and friends, Windows ships Microsoft voices, Chrome adds its own network-backed set. Rate (0.5×–2×) and pitch are standard utterance parameters. The honest limitation: browsers provide no API to capture the spoken audio into a file, so this tool plays the text on your device and cannot offer an MP3 download — any page claiming otherwise is piping your text through a paid cloud TTS service. If you need an audio file, record the playback with the Screen Recorder while it plays, then trim it.

Voices, rate, and pitch are handled by the local engine; audio export is intentionally not offered because the browser API cannot capture it.

Proof-listening a blog post — Mara's workflow

Mara writes 800-word posts and catches twice as many awkward sentences with her ears as with her eyes.

  1. Paste the draft:She pastes an 800-word section (about 4,600 characters — well under the 32,767-character utterance limit) and picks her system's English voice
  2. Dial the pace:Proof-listening works best slightly fast: she sets rate to 1.2× — at the ~150 words/min baseline that is about 180 words/min, so the section plays in roughly 4.4 minutes (800 ÷ 180 × 60 ≈ 267 s)
  3. Flag & fix:Every sentence she stumbles over while listening, she rewrites — the pause/resume buttons let her jump back without restarting the whole section
  4. File later?:When she needs an audio version for accessibility, she records the playback with the Screen Recorder and trims the silence — the only honest capture path the web offers
