Record transactions, set monthly category budgets, and see where every unit of money goes — stored only in your browser, never uploaded.
No expenses or budgets yet this month. Add a transaction below, or click a budget number to set one.
No expenses recorded this month yet.
No transactions this month yet. Add your first one above.
Export a backup regularly — clearing browser data erases everything. CSV works with Mint exports and most banks.
This tool runs 100% in your browser. All computation happens locally on your device — your input is never uploaded to any server. Results are for reference only.
Every transaction lands in one of three places: it adds to income, adds to a category's spending, or moves your net. Budgets are per category and per month — the progress bar compares what you have spent against what you planned, not against your income.
Spent ÷ budget drives the bar color: green under 85%, amber approaching the limit, red at 100% or over. Net = income − expenses for the whole month.
You earn 4,200 for the month and plan these limits: Food 500, Transport 200, Housing 1,400, Entertainment 150.
Record transactions, set monthly category budgets, and see where your money goes. Data lives only in your browser — no account, no cloud, no subscription. CSV import and JSON backup.
The Offline Budget Tracker is a personal budgeting tool that runs entirely in your browser and stores every record in your device's IndexedDB — there is no server, no account, and no upload of any kind. You record income and expense transactions, set a monthly budget per spending category, and the dashboard answers the three questions that matter: how much came in, where it went, and which categories are drifting over plan. It ships with 14 preset categories (10 expense, 4 income), supports custom ones, and includes CSV import compatible with Mint exports and most bank statement formats, CSV export, and full JSON backup and restore. Nothing is paywalled and nothing syncs to a cloud you do not control.
It is built for people whose requirement is the opposite of a connected app: anyone who refuses to hand bank credentials or spending history to a subscription service. Mint refugees get a free landing spot with direct CSV import of their old data. Privacy-conscious users — the "my financial data never leaves my device" crowd — get an IndexedDB store they can inspect and erase themselves. People burned by $15/month budget subscriptions get every feature free, forever. Freelancers and gig workers tracking variable income, students on tight budgets, and anyone in a country where linked bank APIs are unavailable or untrustworthy all fit the same pattern: you want to record and plan, not to be data-mined. If you want automated bank syncing, this is deliberately not that tool.
(1) Add transactions: pick expense or income, type an amount, choose a category, and optionally note what it was — a two-step flow most people complete in under ten seconds per entry. (2) Set budgets: click any budget number in the progress panel and type a monthly limit for that category; limits are per month, so January changes never leak into February. (3) Read the month: summary cards show income, expenses, and net; the ranked "Where your money went" panel bars each category's share; budget bars flip from green to amber at 85% and red at 100%. (4) Move through months with the ‹ › navigator to record or review any period. (5) Back up: export JSON for safekeeping or migration, export CSV for spreadsheets, import CSV from Mint or your bank. All math runs on integer cents, so totals never drift by a fraction.
Cloud apps (YNAB, Monarch, Copilot) charge roughly $13–15 per month and require accounts, bank connections, and servers that hold your full transaction history. Their strengths are automation and multi-device sync; their costs are subscription fatigue, privacy exposure, and the risk the service shuts down — as Mint did in 2024, stranding millions of users. This tracker sits at the opposite corner of the market: no account, no subscription, no cloud, no bank link. You trade automatic import for CSV import, and you trade device sync for JSON backup-and-restore. For many people the trade is lopsided in one direction: if you spend two minutes a week recording purchases, the subscription and the data exposure buy you very little. The honest failure mode to plan for is local data loss — clear-browser-data accidents — which the one-click JSON backup covers in the same way a document backup does.
Entirely in your own browser, in an IndexedDB database on your device. The tracker has no server, no database, and no account system — nothing you type ever leaves your device. Clearing your browser data erases it, so export a JSON backup regularly.
Yes — especially if what you miss about Mint is a free, account-free tracker. You can import your Mint CSV export directly (Date, Description, Category, Amount with expenses negative), and the tool maps amounts by sign automatically. Unlike Mint, there is no bank connection by design: you import statements instead of linking accounts.
Export a CSV from your bank, click Import CSV, and the tool finds the Date and Amount columns automatically (it recognizes common header names like Transaction Date, Posted Date, or Booking Date). Rows with negative amounts become expenses; positive become income. Unrecognized categories land in Other, where you can reassign them.
The database is per browser on per device, so clearing site data deletes your records, and another browser or device will not see them. The Export JSON button produces a full backup you can re-import anywhere, which is also the migration path between devices.
Each category bar compares spent against your monthly limit: green below 85%, amber at 85–99% as a near-limit warning, and red at 100% or over. Categories without a budget show a plain gray indicator with their spending, so you can spot which ones deserve a limit next month.
Why did the elephant paint its toenails red?
