A business day is any day your team actually works: Monday through Friday, minus any holidays that fall on a weekday. The count is a simple subtraction — total calendar days, then take out every Saturday and Sunday, then take out the holidays that landed on a weekday. Two details trip people up. First, a holiday that falls on a weekend (like July 4, 2026, a Saturday) costs no working day on its own, but an observed weekday off (July 3, 2026) does. Second, the same holiday list can't be reused across companies, which is why this tool lets you add custom holidays alongside the US federal calendar.

Both the start and end date are counted inclusively. For example, Jan 1 to Mar 31, 2026 has 90 calendar days, 26 weekend days, and 3 weekday holidays, leaving 61 business days.
A holiday that lands on Saturday or Sunday costs no working day by itself — the day was already excluded as a weekend. Only an observed weekday off (like July 3, 2026, the Friday before a Saturday July 4) removes a real workday from the count. The results panel lists every holiday hit and labels weekend falls explicitly.
Yes. In the custom holidays box, enter one holiday per line as YYYY-MM-DD or YYYY-MM-DD,Name (for example 2026-03-15,Company off). Custom dates stack on top of the included US federal calendar for 2025-2026, and you can untick the federal list entirely to count against only your own calendar.
It matches the standard convention most SLAs use — calendar days minus weekends minus agreed holidays — but contracts vary: some count in calendar days regardless, some exclude only the buyer's holiday calendar. Check your contract's definition, then reproduce it exactly with the holiday settings here before relying on the number.
