Why length and word count beat complexity — illustrated

Strength is entropy — the number of equally likely guesses an attacker must try. Each random character adds log₂(alphabet size) bits; each random word from a list adds log₂(list size). Both grow strength exponentially, but only a passphrase stays memorable.

What makes a password strong?

Entropy, which comes from length and true randomness — not from substituting @ for a in a dictionary word. A random 16-character mixed-case alphanumeric password has ~95 bits of entropy; "P@ssw0rd!" has effectively none against modern cracking. Pair generated passwords with a password manager and unique-per-site use.

Is it safe to generate passwords online?

Here, yes: generation uses the browser's crypto.getRandomValues API and the result is never transmitted, logged, or stored — you can verify with the network tab. The risk with online generators is sites that log inputs; this one is built and documented so it physically cannot. For maximum paranoia, generate offline with a password manager's built-in generator.
