What Is SketchArt?
SketchArt is a free browser-based art generator that transforms your photos into Western oil painting masterpieces. Unlike AI style transfer tools that require cloud processing, SketchArt uses pure mathematical algorithms — bilateral filters, Kuwahara filters, Sobel edge detection, and Phong shading — to simulate paint brush strokes, impasto (paint buildup), canvas weave texture, and oil gloss. The result looks like a real painting, not a filtered photo.
How to Use SketchArt
Upload a photo by dragging it onto the drop zone or clicking to browse. The tool automatically generates a pencil sketch as the base layer. Then click any of the 8 art style cards to apply that painting style. Fine-tune the result with 6 parameters: color saturation, brush stroke intensity, impasto (paint buildup) depth, canvas weave texture, oil gloss, and sketch blend (how much of the pencil sketch shows through). Download the result as HD PNG.

Yes, SketchArt is 100% free with no signup, no watermark, and no usage limits. All image processing happens in your browser using Canvas API — your photos are never uploaded to any server.
What art styles are available?
SketchArt supports 8 Western painting styles: Renaissance (sfumato), Baroque (chiaroscuro), Rococo, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism (Van Gogh swirls), Fauvism, Cubism, and Abstract. Each style has unique color grading, brush stroke algorithms, and impasto depth.
Can I download high-resolution results?
Yes. The HD download feature re-renders your image at full original resolution (up to 3000px max dimension) and exports as a lossless PNG. The preview uses a smaller resolution for speed, but the download is full quality.
How does the sketch feature work?
SketchArt uses the Color Dodge blending algorithm: it inverts the grayscale image, applies a Gaussian blur, then blends with the original using dodge math. Edge detection (Sobel operator) is then applied to enhance line definition. You can control blur radius, edge intensity, and paper brightness.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your photos are never uploaded, stored, or tracked. This is a major privacy advantage over cloud-based art style transfer tools.
