The pencil sketch uses the classic color-dodge (division) blend: the photo is inverted and Gaussian-blurred, then the original is divided by that blurred inverse. In smooth, flat areas the blurred inverse is uniformly bright, so the division keeps the paper tone; at edges, where the inverse dips dark, the denominator drops and the output lines go bright — drawing ink strokes. Line Strength sets the blur radius (stroke width), Edge Sharpen boosts high-frequency contrast, and Paper Brightness lifts the paper tone. The 8 painting styles are procedural shaders that re-map color and add synthetic paint physics — brush strokes, impasto ridges, linen canvas weave, glaze gloss, and a sketch blend that ghosts the line art through. HD export re-runs the same pipeline at full resolution.
