Crop images with aspect ratio presets, compress quality, and convert format. Visual crop editor. 100% browser-based.
This tool runs 100% in your browser. All computation happens locally on your device — your input is never uploaded to any server. Results are for reference only.
Cropping discards pixels, it never invents them. A selection rectangle records the source coordinates (x, y, w, h) in the original image's own pixel space, and the crop then calls drawImage to copy exactly that region into a brand-new canvas. Because the source region is re-encoded, the crop also lets you recompress quality, convert format, and downscale in the same pass — which is how the same action both trims the frame and shrinks the file size.
Only pixels inside the selection survive. The crop box is defined in the source image's natural pixel coordinates, so the output is always a true, lossless-in-region copy of that rectangle — quality and format changes happen when it is re-encoded.

Crop images with aspect ratio presets (1:1, 16:9, 4:3), compress quality, convert JPG/PNG/WebP. Visual crop editor. 100% in-browser, free.
The Image Crop & Compress tool is a free, browser-based visual editor that combines two essential image operations into one workflow. The crop mode provides a drag-to-select canvas with aspect ratio presets (Free, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:2, 9:16) for social media, thumbnails, and print. The compress mode lets you adjust quality (10-100%), choose output format (JPG, PNG, WebP), and set a maximum width for downscaling. All processing happens locally using the HTML5 Canvas API — your images never leave your browser.
Content creators crop images to specific aspect ratios for Instagram (1:1), YouTube thumbnails (16:9), and Pinterest (2:3). Bloggers compress images to reduce page load times without visible quality loss. Web developers convert between JPG, PNG, and WebP formats for optimal browser delivery. Students and researchers crop screenshots to highlight specific areas. Anyone who needs to quickly crop and compress an image without opening Photoshop or installing software.
Upload an image by dragging it onto the dropzone. The visual crop editor appears with your image and a darkened overlay. Click and drag on the image to select the crop area — the selection highlights in real-time. Choose an aspect ratio preset to constrain the crop shape. Adjust compression quality with the slider, select output format (JPG/PNG/WebP), and optionally set a max width. Click Crop & Compress to process, then preview and download the result. All processing is instant and local.
The tool supports Free crop (no constraint), 1:1 (square, Instagram), 4:3 (standard), 16:9 (widescreen, YouTube), 3:2 (DSLR), and 9:16 (vertical, Stories/Reels). Select a preset before or during cropping to lock the selection to that ratio.
Cropping removes unwanted outer areas of the image to focus on a specific region. Compression reduces file size by lowering quality and/or changing the format. This tool combines both: you crop first to get the right framing, then compress to optimize file size. The two operations work together — cropping reduces dimensions (fewer pixels), and compression reduces quality (less data per pixel).
JPG is best for photographs with smooth gradients — smallest file size at a given quality. PNG is best for graphics with sharp edges, text, or transparency — lossless but larger files. WebP is the modern alternative — smaller than JPG at similar quality, supported by all modern browsers. For web use, WebP is recommended. For print, use JPG at 90%+ quality.
